STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team (1-0-1) heads to Newark, New Jersey on Thursday, August 28 as the Huskies will square off against the NJIT Highlanders (0-2). Kickoff is set for 7:00pm. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
UConn is unbeaten through their first two matches of the season, earning a 1-0 win at Syracuse and picking up a 1-1 tie against UMASS last week. Graduate transfer Balthazar Saunders leads the Huskies in points with three so far through his first two matches in a UConn uniform. Saunders scored the equalizer in Sunday's draw with UMASS, converting on a penalty kick with ten minutes left in regulation. The Villanova transfer leads the Huskies roster with five shots.
A Look at NJIT:
The NJIT Highlanders have dropped their first two matches of the 2025 season to Loyola and FDU. The Highlanders are coached by Fernando Barboto, entering his 10th season. NJIT is coming off an America East Tournament appearance, their fifth straight as a program. The Highlanders return their leading goal scorer from a season ago in Sergio Martinez Cubel. NJIT was voted to finish fifth in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Series History:
These two programs met a season ago in Storrs -- the Huskies won 2-1, giving UConn a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series. This will be the first matchup hosted by NJIT.
