Daniels, Afthim Selected on Day Two of 2025 MLB Draft

ATLANTA - On day two of the 2025 MLB Draft, the UConn baseball team had two players selected with INF Ryan Daniels picked in the 11th Round by the Minnesota Twins and RHP Brady Afthim selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 13th Round.Â
Daniels finished his junior year as the BIG EAST Player of the Year. He led the Huskies with a .365 average, 75 RBI, a .744 slugging and .476 on-base percentage. The Meriden, Conn. native finished second on the team with 69 runs scored, 18 home runs and 40 walks. He added 15 doubles four triples and 10 stolen bases in 54 games.
His contributions led to multiple All-American nods including Baseball America, ABCA, NCBWA and College Foundation.Â
Brady Afthim closed his UConn career as a tri-captain and had his best season in Storrs during his senior year. He logged a career-low 2.45 ERA in 36.2 innings. In 22 appearances as the UConn closer he earned nine saves and held opponents to a .217 batting average against. He picked up two wins and notched 53 strikeouts on the year. He finishes his career second in program history with 92 appearances, tied for 8th with 17 career saves and produced the lowest batting average against in program history at .211.Â
The two Huskies become the 76th and 77th players drafted under head coach Jim Penders and he has now had at least one player drafted or signed as an undrafted free agent in 21 of his 22 seasons at the helm of the Huskies.Â
