STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (8-5) will travel to Coastal Carolina this weekend for the Chanticleer Classic. UConn will start the weekend on Friday, February 28 with a pair of matchups beginning at 11:00am EST. The Huskies will play a total of five games on the weekend, against Wisconsin, Bowling Green twice, and the host school Coastal Carolina twice.
UConn is coming off a 4-1 weekend at the Mercer Softball Invitational last weekend.
The Huskies offense has been firing on all cylinders so far this season. UConn currently ranks atop the conference in home runs (12), runs batted in (70), total runs (76), and walks (43) through 13 games this season. UConn has received consistent contributions up and down the lineup, as the Huskies have had ten or more hits in seven games this season, creating plenty of scoring opportunities and traffic on the base paths. Freshman infielder Cat Petteys has been swinging a hot bat to kick off her freshman campaign. Petteys leads the Huskies roster with a .432 batting average. She recently had an eight game hitting streak snapped last Sunday.
UConn's pitching staff is coming off a strong weekend at Mercer as the Huskies pitchers earned the staff's first two shutouts this season. Graduate student Payton Kinney has been dominant through her first six appearances this season, as she has not given up an earned run in her 16.0 innings pitched.

Bowling Green (3-7)
The Bowling Green Falcons are coming off a 1-4 weekend at the Norman Tournament hosted by Oklahoma. The Falcons are coached by Michelle Gardner in her first season. Bowling Green has been led by junior infielder Hannah Hunt this season. UConn is 3-1 all-time against the Falcons. The last meeting came back in 2023 as then sophomore Rosie Garcia hit a two-run walk-off triple, giving the Huskies a 5-4 win (Feb. 19).
Coastal Carolina (12-2)
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are riding a nine game winning streak heading into the weekend. The Chanticleers are coached by Kelley Green in her 16th season.
