Huskies Fall to Army in Wasabi Fenway Bowl

BOSTON, MA – The UConn Huskies were defeated by the Army Black Knights, 41-16, in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl in front of 22,461 at Fenway Park on Saturday afternoon.
After a three-and-out on their first drive, the Huskies (9-4) forced a fourth-down stop to regain possession, with Oumar Diomande (Bronx, NY) forcing the turnover on downs. Cam Edwards (Norwalk, CT) converted on fourth down for the Huskies, scampering outside for a 34-yard gain to set up a 12-yard score for his 15th rushing touchdown of the season, giving UConn an early 7-0 lead.
Army (7-6) responded on its next possession, with Cale Hellums finding Noah Short for a 40-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 7-7 with six minutes left in the first.
Early in the second quarter, D'Mon Brinson (Miami, Fla.) forced an Army fumble, and Matt Hoffman (Wyncote, PA) recovered it for the Huskies. After forcing a UConn punt, the Black Knights completed a 10-play, 90-yard touchdown drive, with Godspower Nwawuihe rushing for a 43-yard touchdown to put Army ahead 14-7.
Chris Freeman (Zionsville, IN) drilled a 48-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter, cutting the Army lead to 14-10 at halftime.
Nwawuihe scored his second touchdown of the game, breaking multiple tackles on a 70-yard run to extend the Black Knight advantage to 20-10. Hellums scored on a quarterback keeper, stretching the Army lead to 27-10.
Ksaan Farrar (Virginia Beach, VA) led the Huskies into the Army red zone with multiple completions to Reymello Murphy (Fremont, CA) and John Neider (Milford, CT). However, the Black Knights forced a turnover on downs to maintain control late in the third quarter.
Hellums scored his second touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, stretching the Army lead to 34-10. Farrar orchestrated a touchdown drive for the Huskies, scoring his first career touchdown on an 11-yard run to cut the lead to 34-16 with five minutes to go. Carson Smith rushed for a six-yard touchdown to cap the win for Army, and the Black Knights secured the 41-16 victory behind 368 yards on the ground.
Game Notes:
The Huskies are now tied 5-5 with Army in the all-time series, with the Black Knights winning the last three matchups.
Edwards eclipsed 100 rushing yards for the fifth time this season and the ninth time in his career, finishing with 108 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.
In his first collegiate start, Farrar finished with 84 passing yards and a rushing touchdown.
