Huskies Dominate Tigers for First win of 2025-26 Season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — UConn men's hockey bounced back in game two of the weekend series vs. Colorado securing a 5-1 win, powered by two power-play goals and a stellar 26-save performance from their goaltender.
The first period began with UConn facing an early challenge as Colorado College capitalized on a power play opportunity. Despite multiple attempts by CC, UConn's defense, led by Tyler Muszelik in goal, held firm, successfully killing the penalty and keeping the game scoreless initially.UConn responded with a series of offensive plays, including a near score by Ethan Gardula that hit the pipe. However, Colorado College broke the deadlock with Bret Link scoring at 10:31, assisted by Ryan Koering, giving them a 1-0 lead. In the closing minutes of the period following a delayed penalty, UConn pulled Muszelik and applied pressure, leading to Ryan Tattle's equalizing goal at 1:15, assisted by Anthony Allain Samake and Kevin Fitzgerald.
The Huskies carried the momentum from the first period goal into the second as UConn extended their lead when Ethan Gardula won a battle along the boards and found Mike Murtagh who slid the puck to Tom Messineo for the goal.. The visitors continued to apply pressure but Muszelik made key saves to maintain the lead. Midway through the period, UConn capitalized on a power play when Alexandre Blais scored with helpers from Kaden Shahan and Kai Janviriya, pushing the lead to 3-1. Shortly after, Joey Muldowney added an even-strength goal with contributions from Tattle and Jake Richard, further extending UConn's advantage.
Late in the second period, Colorado College looked to cut into UConn's lead following a 5 on 3 power play but UConn's penalty kill, supported by Muszelik's saves, kept Colorado College from narrowing the gap. The period closed with UConn holding a 4-1 lead.
The scoring didn't stop after the second period as UConn extended their lead early in the third period with a power-play goal by Kaden Shahan assisted by Blais and Janviriya, increasing their lead to 5-1. Despite Colorado College's efforts, including numerous shot attempts, UConn's defense held firm with UConn securing the 5-1 victory.
The Huskies will return home and have a week off as they will turn their attention to a matchup with Ohio State Oct.18.
