STORRS, Conn. – No. 11 UConn women's hockey took down the No.15 ranked Princeton Tigers, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Toscano Family Ice Forum, sweeping the weekend series to move to 4-2 on the season.
The teams traded power-play opportunities in the first period, with each side having chances to grab the early advantage. UConn outshot Princeton 11-4 in the period, with junior forward Julia Pellerin peppering the net with four shots on goal.
Princeton ramped up the intensity in the second period, taking advantage of multiple Husky penalties to fire several shots on net. UConn goaltender Tia Chan continued to anchor the UConn defense in net, turning away 16 second-period shots from the Tigers to keep the visitors off the board. Pellerin broke through with one second remaining in the second period, scoring the first goal of her UConn career to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead heading into the third.
After scoring the game-winner last night, senior forward Kyla Josifovic continued her strong play on the offensive end, scoring seven minutes into the period to double the UConn lead to 2-0. Josifovic kept the momentum rolling later in the period, scoring her second goal five minutes later to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. Princeton pulled its goaltender with four minutes left, but Chan turned away all shots to complete the shutout and lift UConn to a 3-0 victory.
