STORRS, Conn. – The UConn field hockey team (2-6, 0-1) is set to host a home weekend against BIG EAST foe, Georgetown, and No.20 Delaware amid road games.
The Huskies are coming off a 1-1 weekend. They fell in their BIG EAST opening game on Friday to Temple, 0-1, however, they beat Princeton on Sunday in a 3-1 contest. The win over the Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak for the Huskies. UConn's Sophia Ugo, Sol Simone, and Julia Bressler notched the goals to seal the win. Freshman goalkeeper, Natalie McKenna, notched nine saves on the weekend. Freshman, Sanne Stout, was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for her defensive play, specifically her two defensive saves against Princeton.
UConn will welcome back the 2013 National Championship team during a ceremony on Sunday to celebrate the 10-year anniversary. The alums will be honored on the field during halftime of the field hockey game and will also be honored on the field at the UConn versus Duke football game on Saturday, September 23rd. The football game is set for kickoff at 3:30pm.
The Georgetown Hoyas (1-7, 0-1) come to town after winning their first game of the season against Lock Haven last Sunday. The Hoyas fell to conference opponent, Villanova, in their first BIG EAST game of the season last weekend. The Huskies defeated the Hoyas in 2022 in Washington, DC.
No.20 Delaware (4-4) lost most recently to then-No.13 Saint Joseph's, a team that previously beat the Huskies in the 2023 season opener. In 2022, the Blue Hens were defeated by the Huskies in a thrilling 4-3 overtime contest that included a comeback win. UConn was down 3-0 with just under 10 minutes to go, when they decided to pull their goalkeeper. The Huskies forced overtime with three straight goals and solidified the win just one minute and six seconds into the period with a goal from Simone. The Blue Hens will look for revenge as they head to Storrs.
The game versus Georgetown is set for 1:00pm on Friday, September 22nd to be broadcast on FloSports. Delaware is set for 12:00pm on Sunday, September 24th to be broadcast on UConn+.
