Nelson Claims Individual Title as Huskies Tie For 2nd At Golfweek/AGT

Win Earns Nelson Big East Player of Week Honors
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C.-- The UConn men's golf team finished the Golfweek/AGT intercollegiate tournament tied for second place after shooting -2 as a team. The Huskies were led by graduate student Jared Nelson who shot -9 under to claim first place amongst all players.
The Huskies finished tied for second following a strong final day on the course shooting -3 on the day, the best amongst all teams in the tournament, helping the Huskies finish 2-under, 293-284-285= 862. UConn had to fend off Xavier, Valparaiso and Austin Peay State to finish in the top five of the tournament.
Nelson (Rutland, VT), UConn's leading scorer fired a 9-under, 68-69-70=207 finishing one stroke above Troy's Jake Springer to be named individual champion.
In addition to Nelson, the Huskies also received contributions from junior Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.), who tied for 16 finishing with 1-under, 75-69-71=215. In addition to Nelson and Paradise, rounding out the team for the Huskies were sophomore Vikram Konanki (Newton, Mass.), who shot 2-over, 73-74-71=218, Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, CT), who shot 6-over, 77-72-73=222 and Trevor Lopez (Winchester,Mass.), who shot 19-over 78-76-81=235.
Playing as an individual was freshman Christopher Sacher (Schoeffengrund, Hesse, Germany), who shot 11-over for the tournament 74-79-74=227.
UConn will wrap up their season at Penn Sate for The Rutherford tournament April 15-16 before beginning Big East Championship play April 28(Fri)-April 30(Sun).
