Another Top 10 Finish For Nelson At The Rutherford

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – UConn grad student Jared Nelson recorded his sixth Top 10 finish of the 2022-23 golf season as he tied for eighth place at the Rutherford Intercollegiate tournament, which finished Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa.
Nelson (Rutland, Vt.), who now has 19 Top 10 finishes in his college career, fired a 1-under, 72-70-70=212, and upped his career total of par-or-better rounds to 54, as he tied for eighth place in the 75-player field.
Sophomore Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) picked up his second Top 20 finish of the year and his fourth round of par-or better, as he tied for 18th place with a 4-over, 74-69-74=217.
Nelson and Lopez tied for the tournament lead in scoring on the par 5 holes, each playing them at 6-under par.
Nelson and Lopez led the UConn contingent as the Huskies finished in eighth place in the 12-team field with an aggregate 292-287-291=870 in the final competition of the regular season.
Also for the Huskies, junior Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.) finished in a tie for 28th place with a 6-over, 72-74-73=219, junior Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) finished in a tie for 53rd with an 11-over, 74-76-74=224, and sophomore Vikram Konanki (Newton, Mass.) finished in 63rd place with a 14-over, 77-74-76=227.
Playing as an individual, freshman Colin Spencer (Mashpee, Mass.) was 71st with a 22-over, 79-75-81=235.
UConn will enter postseason play at the BIG EAST Championship, set for April 28-30 at the Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club in Hardeeville, S.C.
