Softball set for series at Providence this weekend

PROVIDENCE, RI – The UConn softball team (12-7, 2-1 BIG EAST) travels to Providence for a three game series with the Friars (8-11, 1-2 BIG EAST).
The Huskies are coming off a series win over Seton Hall and winners in five of their last six games. In those six games UConn is hitting .374 as a team and outscoring their opponents 41-14. The Huskies have found their groove offensively in this stretch working deep counts earning 33 walks and stealing 33 bags. The Huskies have been led by a pair of juniors in Makenzie Mason and Taylor Zatyk. The duo has combined for six extra base hits and thirteen runs batted in during this six game stretch.
The UConn pitching staff has been steady holding opponents to a .209 batting average this season with 97 strikeouts. Freshman Hope Jenkins has pitched well for the Huskies in the circle as she leads the staff with a 6-1 record, tallying 42 strikeouts, ranking fifth in the BIG EAST.
Providence is coming off a series loss at St. John's last weekend. The Friars are led by junior infielder Jacque Harrington who holds a team high .364 batting average, with twelve runs batted in, and five home runs.
Game one is set for 3:00pm on Friday at Glay Field in Providence. UConn will play a doubleheader on Saturday to close out the three game series. The first game will begin at noon with the second game to follow directly after the conclusion of the first game.
