Softball completes series sweep of DePaul

Storrs, CT – UConn scores ten unanswered to secure series sweep of DePaul. Move to 8-1 in BIG EAST play.
Meghan O'Neil got the start in the series finale for the Huskies. She went four innings only giving up three hits and struck out seven.
The Blue Demons struck first in this one with a home run in the second inning giving them a 1-0 lead. DePaul would extend their lead in the third 2-0.
The Huskies got on the board in the bottom half of the third. Reese Guevarra hit a bloop single to left, scoring Aziah James to trim the DePaul lead to one.
Marybeth Olson came in relief for O'Neil in the fifth. She pitched one inning striking out two.
UConn's offense exploded in the fifth scoring nine runs on six hits. They sent a total of 14 batters to the plate to secure the run rule win. Guevarra got it started for the Huskies with a single to center tying the game at two. Rosie Garcia gave the Huskies the lead on a fielding error scoring two runs. Lexi Hastings broke it open with a bases clearing double bringing in three runners making it 7-2 UConn. Erika Coreth got in on the hit party with a single to center to score Hastings. DePaul would walk in the next two runs giving the Huskies the 10-2 win.
Head Coach Laura Valentino had this to say about her team's performance on the weekend, "Three games with come from behind wins show the fight and resilience of this group. We played for something bigger than ourselves this weekend and I am so proud of our team's care and competitiveness."
UConn will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Boston University in a midweek matchup. Game time is set for 4:00pm.
