Softball opens Georgetown series with a win

Washington, DC – UConn takes first game in Georgetown series, 7-3. Remain unbeaten in conference play.
Meghan O'Neil got the start in the series opener on Friday for the Huskies. She pitched a solid five innings only giving up three hits and striking out four.
The Huskies struck first in this one. Olivia Sappington hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Lexi Hastings giving UConn a 1-0 lead. The Huskies would extend the lead to 4-0 in the top half of the fourth. Hastings singled to left, scoring Sami Barnett. Sappington delivered with a big two run homer, her third on the year.
The Hoyas responded in the bottom half of the fourth with a run making it 4-1. UConn quickly answered off the bat of Briana Marcelino. She hit a solo shot, her third on the year to give the Huskies a four run lead. Jana Sanden would score Reese Guevarra on an error making it 6-1. Sappington delivered once again on a double to center, scoring Hastings.
Elise Sokolsky came in relief for O'Neil in the sixth. She went on to close out the win for the Huskies pitching two innings striking out two.
UConn will look to win the series tomorrow at 11:30am.
