Queens, NY – UConn shuts out St. John's 5-0, completing their first weekend sweep in conference play this season.

Elise Sokolsky (6-3) started on the mound for the Huskies in the series finale. She pitched six shutout innings striking out five and only giving up three hits.

Briana Marcelino kickstarted the Huskies offense, leading off the game with a homer to center field. This is the second time this year Marcelino has leadoff the game with a home run.

The Huskies would put the game out of reach in the third, making it 4-0. Rosie Garcia delivered a two-run single to center, her 13^th RBI of the season. Jana Sanden hit a bloop single to right, scoring Reese Guevarra.

In the sixth, the Huskies extended the lead to 5-0 on a single up the middle by Sami Barnett.

Delaney Nagy came in to close out the win for the Huskies in the seventh. She struck out the side, capping off a lockdown weekend for the pitching staff.

Head coach, Laura Valentino had this to say about her team's performance, "I am proud of the growth we had as a team during the first month of our season. Our fire and energy showed up this week. We competed tough and I am excited for the way we set the tone in conference play."

UConn moves to 12-10 on the year and starts off conference play at 3-0. They will travel to Georgetown to face the Hoyas this upcoming weekend.
