Huskies Fall To #12 Merrimack, Split Season Series

HARTFORD, CT - The UConn Huskies fell to No.12 Merrimack Friday 7-3 to split season series. Chase Bradley, Justin Pearson, and Samu Salminen were the goal scorers for the Huskies, while Merrimack netminder Zachary Borgiel made 33 saves in the win.
UConn got on the board fast behind precision passing, as Harrison Rees found Nick Capone, who found Chase Bradley cross ice leaving Bradley open to fire the shot for the goal. Merrimack eventually found the equalizer late in the first Period as a shot by Matt Copponi found the back of the net. Both teams entered the period break tied at one, while UConn outshot Merrimack 11-9.
The second period featured six combined goals from both teams, two from UConn and four from the Warriors. Merrimack scored two goals to open the second period, however Justin Pearson and the Huskies responded to cut the lead to one. Following the UConn goal, Merrimack capitalized on penalties by the Huskies, scoring on the power play. Freshman Samu Salminen and the Huskies fought back cutting the Warriors lead to one, however Merrimack scored another Power Play goal increasing their lead to two heading into the period break.
Merrimack added two more goals, one being an empty netter to secure the 7-3 victory. UConn outshot the Warriors 36-26 in the game, but the Warriors capitalized on the eight UConn penalties.
