Softball to Host Butler, Officially Christen Burrill this Weekend

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (10-10, 2-1 BIG EAST) officially christens Burrill Family Field this weekend as they play host to the Butler Bulldogs (9-11, 2-4 BIG EAST) in its first BIG EAST home series. The three-game slate features a Saturday afternoon doubleheader (12/2 p.m.) and a Sunday matinee (10 a.m.)
The opening day ceremony will feature an opening day hype video and the first pitch thrown out by UConn President Thomas Katsouleas.

Attendance - UConn is continuing to follow guidance from the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, which recommends in-person attendance be limited to friends and family of UConn student-athletes and coaches only. Last Time Out…
Reese Guevarra's walk-off 2 RBI inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the fifth opened the new stadium in style and gave UConn (10-10, 2-1 BIG EAST) a 10-2 run-rule victory over Central Connecticut State Wednesday afternoon at Burrill Family Field.
Numbers of Note…
- After swiping five bags in the 10-2 win over CCSU, the Huskies broke the single-season record for stolen bases. The previous record of 55 was set by the 1996 team.
- Freshman pitcher Payton Kinney (3.03 ERA) leads the league in innings pitched (75 2/3) and is second in strikeouts (75) and opposing batting average (.213).
- The pitching duo of Kinney and Meghan O'Neil (3.05 ERA, .271 OBA, 62innings) have combined to limiting opposing hitters to a .241 batting average and a 2.95 ERA, first and second in the conference, respectively.
- Briana Marcelino currently ranks second in the BIG EAST in total runs scored (17) and home runs (6)… Reese Guevarra is T-2nd with 25 hits… Sanden and Marcelino's 15 RBI are tied for third in the conference.
Scouting the Opponent…
- The Bulldogs lead the BIG EAST with a 2.91 ERA and 140 strikeouts. Butler has produced four shutouts this season and are limiting its opponents to a .250 average.
- Karli Ricketts leads the Bulldogs with a 2.43 ERA. That is second in the BIG EAST. Posting a 2.80 ERA, Alyssa Graves is fourth in the conference. Ricketts' 73 strikeouts lead the league, which Graves is tied for fourth with 47. Rickets is 6-4 on the season and those six wins are tied for the BIG EAST lead.
- Lauren Fey's .491 batting average is third in the BIG EAST, while her .603 on-base percentage is second among conference players. Her 28 hits and 16 walks lead the BIG EAST. Fey is hitting .500 in the team's six BIG EAST games.
- Ricketts leads the BIG EAST with 21 RBI. She has five home runs and five doubles, which are both third in the BIG EAST.
All-Time Series…
This weekend marks just the second time that UConn and Butler have met on the diamond, and the first as conference opponents.
