Volleyball Drops Weekend Finale at PC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UConn women's volleyball team fell to Providence College on Saturday night. The Huskies drop to 2-6 on the year and 2-4 in conference play. The Friars improve to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in Big East action.
How it Happened
The Friars got out to an early 4-1 lead and would hold that lead throughout the set. UConn kept things close, until Providence opened a 20-14 lead, forcing the Huskies to call timeout. The Friars would take the opening set 25-22 and lead the match 1-0.
UConn was able to get the jump on the Friars in the second set, taking an early 6-3 lead. The Huskies gained some breathing room near the midway point of the set, leading 13-9, forcing a Providence timeout. Out of the break, UConn continued to roll and pushed the lead to 18-11 before another Friars timeout. The break would not help Providence, as the Huskies cruised to a 25-13 win to tie the match 1-1.
The third set was a tightly contested set, with the teams splitting the points and the score even at 14-14. Providence would call timeout after two quick UConn points to cut the Friars lead to 24-22 late in the set. The Huskies cut the lead to 24-23, but Providence held on to win 25-23 and lead the match 2-1.
Building on the momentum from the previous set, Providence took a 9-5 lead in the fourth frame, forcing a UConn timeout. The Friars would continue to lead late and take the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
Husky Leaders
Junior Caylee Parker led the team with 16 kills and added nine digs and three blocks. Sophomore Jasmine Davis recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 kills, hitting at a .312 mark on the night, and 12 digs. Davis also added three blocks. Redshirt junior Courtney Morris had a team-high 22 assists and added four blocks. Sophomore Mia Ruffolo led the Huskies with 17 digs on the night, adding four assists and three service aces.
Up Next
The Huskies will have some time off before the next series on Friday, March 26th and Saturday, March 27th when Seton Hall comes to Storrs. Both matches are set to begin at 6:00pm at Gampel Pavilion. UConn will also have a senior night ceremony before Saturday's match.
