Huskies Lose Regular Season Finale, 8-6

NEW ORLEANS – The UConn baseball team closed out the regular season with an 8-6 defeat to Tulane (31-24, 12-11) on Saturday afternoon at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
The Huskies (33-22, 12-12 American) trailed 8-1 entering the eighth inning and was able to bring the potential go-ahead run to the plate with two outs in the ninth inning. UConn scored two runs in the eighth and tacked on three runs in the ninth.
Anthony Prato singled with two gone in the ninth to make it an 8-6 game. The base hit placed runners at first and second and brought Mike Woodworth to the plate. The senior battled to a 3-2 count but grounded out to short to end the rally.
The Huskies threw six pitchers on Saturday as part of a staff day to close the series. UConn gave up a season-high four home runs to the top offensive team in the conference to put the team in an early hole.
Karl Johnson threw the ball well with 2.2 scoreless frames before giving up a pair of runs in sixth inning. Avery Santos followed and gave up a two-run homer to Hudson Haskins but was able to settled down and toss a scoreless seventh inning.
The Huskies await their potential seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship but know that they will play in the 9 a.m. No. 4 vs. No. 5 matchup on Tuesday, May 21. The games will be streamed on The American Digital Network, ESPN Radio and 91.7 FM WHUS.
