Huskies to Face Wichita State in Opening Round of AAC Tourney

STORRS, Conn. - The American Athletic Conference announced the seeding and pair for this week's championship tournament and the UConn women's tennis team will take on the Wichita State Shockers in the opening round at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The Huskies are seeded 12th in the tournament and face the No. 5 seeded Shockers at 9 am Wednesday morning.
The winner of Wednesday's match will move on to the quarterfinal round on Thursday to take on the No. 2 seed Tulsa. For the second-consecutive season, the host UCF Knights will be the tournament's No. 1 seed. The winner of the women's championship will earn The American's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships. Seeds for the championships are determined by the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Each match in the championship will consist of three doubles matches, each consisting of one set to 6, followed by six singles matches, which will be played in a best-of-three-sets format.

The Huskies will face Wichita State for the first time as part of the AAC. Before joining the conference, the Shockers won 11 conference titles in the Missouri Valley Conference. UConn played five matches this season against conference teams with their lone win over Temple at home, 4-3.
