SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Bethune-Cookman (9-21) is on a two-game winning streak after defeating Western Illinois in a doubleheader last Wednesday, with scores of 2-0 and 2-1.
Head Coach Laura Watten's 2019 roster is made up of four freshmen, four sophomores, eight juniors, and a pair of seniors. The 10 upperclassmen will look to lead their team through the 51 games of the regular season. With the Wildcats picked to finish second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, sophomore pitcher Alexis Bermudez was picked as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Overall, Bethune-Cookman had several student-athletes named to the preseason all-conference teams.
The Wildcats have been honored by the MEAC five different times so far this season for weekly awards—freshman infield/utility Kaira Cabato, junior pitcher Destiny Enriquez, sophomore pitcher Victoria Guzman twice, and junior outfield Kaiya Epps-Lee. Coach Watten picked up her 700th career victory back on Saturday, Feb. 16th in a 3-1 win over Kansas.
Bethune-Cookman ended the 2018 season with a 3-0 loss to South Florida in the NCAA Gainesville Regional elimination game after winning the MEAC.
