Men’s Basketball Primed for First Round Matchup with USF

STORRS, Conn. – After wrapping up the 2018-19 regular season on Sunday, the UConn men's basketball team heads to Memphis, Tenn. as it prepares to play in the 2019 American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, held at the FedEx Forum from March 14-17.
The Huskies, who captured the ninth seed in the field after their 82-73 victory over ECU in the season finale, will face the eighth-seeded USF Bulls in the first round of the tournament on Thursday afternoon. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tipoff and will be televised on ESPNU.

Opponent and Series History…
- UConn leads the all-time series by 21-3. The Huskies and Bulls split the regular season series 1-1, with both clubs winning on their home courts. USF posted a 76-68 win in the conference opener back on Jan. 2, while UConn won the most recent meeting, 60-58, to avenge the early season lost and earn the series split.
- UConn and USF have met twice before in the AAC Championship, both times at the XL Center in Hartford. UConn won a 69-43 decision in the 2015 first round and a 77-66 victory in the 2017 first round. The teams never met in the Big East Championship
- USF (19-12, 8-10) is coming off a 77-71 home loss to SMU Sunday in its regular-season finale.
- The Bulls are led in scoring by sophomore David Collins (15.3), while freshman Alexis Yetna is the top rebounder (9.6).

Coach Dan Hurley enters his first season at the helm after he became the 19th head coach in the history of UConn men's basketball on March 22, 2018. Prior to his hiring, Hurley spent two seasons at Wagner College and six at the University of Rhode Island, and owns a collegiate coaching record of 153- 105 (.593). He is coming off two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and last season was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year.

A victory in Thursday's game would advance UConn to the AAC Championship quarterfinals on Friday, March 15, at FedExForum, against No. 1 seed Houston. The game is scheduled for a noon (EDT) tipoff and will be televised by ESPN2.
