PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Three players ended the game in double figures, but the UConn men's basketball team dropped its contest to the Temple Owls, 81-63, Wednesday night Liacourus Center. UConn falls to 13-10 overall, while Temple improves to 17-6.
Junior Christian Vital and sophomore Josh Carlton led the Huskies with 18 points and 13 rebounds apiece, while Eric Cobb added 13 points and five rebounds.
Temple opened up an early seven point lead, 13-6, as the Owls started the game shooting 6-of-6 from the field. The Huskies responded to cut the deficit to three, but the home team outscored UConn 33-10 across the remainder of the half and carried all of the momentum into a 46-20 advantage at the break.
Vital, Carlton and Cobb combined for 35 of UConn's 43 second half points, as the Huskies looked to trim into the Temple lead. UConn was able to get the lead down to 18 on three occasions, but was unable to get any closer as clutch shot-making by the Owls and the early deficit proved to be too much to overcome.
