PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The UConn men's soccer team outshot Temple 9-8 and made some great defensive plays, however, the Owls held the advantage in the one area that counted as Temple handed the Huskies a 2-1 loss in Philadelphia Saturday night. UConn drops to 4-10-1 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The Owls improved to 7-6-1 and 3-1-1 in AAC play.
Mickael Borger opened up the scoring and got the Owls on the board first, cashing in a rebound after Esteban Suarez's shot deflected off the post to give Temple a 1-0 lead in the 26'.
UConn answered back eight minutes later. Temple keeper Simon Lefebvre went up to make the save on the intial UConn shot attempt, but came down and landed on his teammate, causing him to lose the ball. Jake Dengler seized the opportunity and rifled the ball into the back of the empty net to tie the game 1-1 in the 34'.
Temple regained a 2-1 lead in the 61' of play, when Pierre Cayet headed home Lukas Fernandes' corner kick.
The Huskies kept fighting and looked to get an equalizer throughout the remainder of regulation. Unfortunately, UConn was unable to convert and the home team held on for the win.
