DALLAS, Texas – The UConn men's soccer team came up just short in its American Athletic Conference road finale, falling to No. 12 SMU, 1-0, Friday night at Westcott Field. UConn sees its record fall to 4-11-1. The Mustangs improved to 13-1-1 on the season with the win.
A large portion of the game was played in the offensive third, resulting in few quality scoring chances for the AAC foes. The Huskies managed just two shots on goal – one from Djimon Johnson and the other from Thomas Decottignies. Freshman goalkeeper Marcus Peterkin collected three saves for the Huskies in the loss.
SMU struck for the night's first goal – and eventual game winner – just under seven minutes into the ball game. The Mustangs served in a corner kick and the ball was batted around before Henrik Bredeli collected the ball and put one into the back of the net at the 6:04 mark to give SMU a 1-0 lead.
The Huskies continued to fight throughout the second half and produced a couple quality chances at securing an equalizer but unfortunately, UConn was unable to put one through. Johnson lined up a shot in the 51' minute but his attempt deflected off the post and out. Twenty minutes later, Decottignies hopped on a bouncing ball and tried to put one in but fired it just above the crossbar.
