Huskies Sweep Quinnipiac in Home Opener

Parker and McGary post double digit kills

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn volleyball team hit a season-best .357 (50-15-98) on their way to a three-set sweep of in-state rival Quinnipiac University Tuesday night from Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies posted their third win on the early season, winning 25-13, 25-20 and 25-15.
UConn freshman Caylee Parker (Windsor, Ontario) came up with 13 kills, her third-straight game in double digit kills, with four digs and two total blocks. Senior Iman McGary (Rockford, Ill.) chipped in 12 kills and hit .375 in the match (13-8-34) and added five digs.
Senior setter Emma Turner (Winter Park, Fla.) dished out 40 assists, had four kills on six attempts, five digs, a block and served up a pair of aces. R-Senior Danielle Cabel (Bettendorf, Iowa) had eight kills and hit .385 (8-3-13) while r-sophomore Genna Florig (Portland, Ore.) posted nine kills on 11 attempts (.818) and had two total blocks. Senior Elizabeth Kline (Glenshaw, Pa.) posted 17 digs.
In the opening set, the Huskies built a 12-6 lead to force a QU time-out then came out and ran off a 5-2 spurt to force another time-out and outscored the Bobcats 13-7 the rest of the way. In the second set, the Huskies led 14-9 before QU pulled it even with a 5-0 run. The Huskies answered with a 4-0 run and never looked back on the way to a 25-20. In the third, trailing 1-0, UConn rang off seven-straight points and never trailed again on the way to a 25-15 win to close it out.
The Huskies will stay at home and host the UConn Challenge this weekend. UConn will take on New Hampshire and Iona on Friday and battle Syracuse on Saturday at Gampel Pavilion.
