Balanced Attack Leads No. 5 UConn Past No. 11 Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Five different Huskies scored as the No. 5 UConn field hockey team (19-3) shutout No. 11 Rutgers (13-6) 5-0 in the NCAA First Round Friday afternoon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Junior Svea Boker, redshirt senior Cecile Pieper, freshman Karo Kueskes, freshman Maddy Wray and sophomore Jessica Dembrowski each scored for the Huskies. Senior Amanda Collins, junior Antonia Tiedtke, Boker and Pieper each notched assists.
Boker started scoring at 10:36, tipping a pass from Pieper over the keeper at 10:36. Boker then set up Pieper for a goal 10 minutes later.
Kueskes scored from the top of the circle at 24:31 on a penalty corner from Collins and Tiedtke. Wray dribbled around th top of the circle and notched a goal at 27:40 and the Huskies took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
Dembrowski notched the only goal of the second half, taking a rebound off a save and finding the back of the cage at 58:42.
Redshirt sophomore Cheyenne Sprecher made three saves in goal, all in the second half. She notched her eighth shutout of the season. Freshman Lindsay Dickinson made a defensive save on Rutgers' only shot on goal in the first half.
UConn will face second-ranked Maryland (20-2) in the NCAA Second Round on Sunday at 1 p.m.
