UConn Blanked on the Road at No. 4 Boston College, 4-0

CHESNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College scored two second period goals and got 16 saves from freshman goaltender Maddy McArthur to help lead them to a 4-0 shutout win over the UConn Huskies at Kelley Rink Saturday afternoon. The Huskies fall to 6-7-1 on the season with the loss, Boston College moves to 10-3.
BC senior defenseman Megan Keller tallied two goals on the day, while classmate Makenna Newkirk finished with a goal and an assist. Junior Caitrin Lonergan chipped in a goal as well.
Neither the Huskies nor Eagles were able to capitalize on the power play, with UConn finishing 0-5 while Boston College went 0-4. The Eagles fired off 34 shots on net and stifled the UConn offense, holding the Huskies to a season-low 16 shots.
First Period:
After 18 minutes of tightly contested and scoreless action, Boston College broke through with a goal at 18:13. Caitrin Lonergan skated through the Husky defense and wristed a shot from the right circle into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Second Period:
Keller made it 2-0 at 3:45, burying a one-timer from the bottom of the circle off a feed Makenna Newkirk. Another goal from Keller off a pass from Watts and Cayla Barnes pushed the Eagles' lead to 3-0.
Third Period:
Boston College's defensive stranglehold on the UConn offense continued into the third period as the Eagles allowed just five shots on goal over the final 20 minutes. BC killed off two UConn power plays in the third and Newkirk tacked on a goal of her own at 9:29 to give the home team a 4-0 advantage and put the game completely out of reach.
