CHESNUT HILL, Mass. – The UConn women's hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision on the road to the fifth-ranked Boston College Eagles Thursday night at the Conte Forum.
After an up-tempo initial 17 minutes of scoreless first period action, Boston College jumped out in front 1-0 following a Caitrin Lonergan and Daryl Watts connection.
The second period featured 20 minutes of scoreless play. BC came out firing on all cylinders as they held a 13-4 shot advantage - the Husky defense held strong, recording 13 saves to keep UConn within striking distance heading into the third frame.
Boston College added two third period goals – from Savannah Norcross (2:36) and Megan Keller (15:22) – to seal the 3-0 victory.
1st Period:
17:06 | Off a two-on-one break, Caitrin Lonergan threaded the needle through two UConn defenders over to Daryl Watts who finished the play, giving BC a 1-0 lead.
2nd Period
The Eagles held a 17-8 shot advantage in the second period, but some deflections by the Husky defense and acrobatic saves by goalie Morgan Fisher kept BC from cashing in on its opportunities, allowing UConn to remain within one goal heading into the final frame.
3rd Period
2:36 | The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 after forcing a turnover as the Huskies tried to clear the puck from their own defensive goal. Watts scooped up the puck and dropped a backdoor pass off to Savannah Norcross for the score.
15:22| On the power play, Makenna Newkirk dished the puck to Megan Keller in the crease who finessed the puck past the glove of Morgan Fisher to extend the BC lead and secure the 3-0 victory.
