CLEARWATER, Fla - The UConn baseball team was eliminated 13-3 against No. 25 Houston in The American Athletic Conference semifinals on Saturday at Spectrum Field.
The Huskies (33-25) await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, May 29 at noon on ESPN2. The Huskies hope to grab an at-large bid to the 64-team field. NCAA Regionals are scheduled for Friday June 2-Monday, June 5.
The Huskies scored all three of their runs in the ninth inning on four hits. Anthony Prato finished the tournament with 10 hits for the Huskies including a 1-4 performance this afternoon.
The Cougars posted a season-high 13 runs against the Huskies pitching staff that gave up 14 hits, eight walks and two hit by pitches.
Doug Domnarski was the only UConn pitcher to log a scoreless outing, putting up a zero in the eighth inning.
American Athletic Conference Rookie Pitcher of the Year Mason Feole got off to a great start with three scoreless innings. Feole ran into trouble in the fourth but nearly escaped bases loaded, one-out jam. The left-hander struck out Joe Davis to record out number two but an error at second base extended the inning and led to the first run of the ballgame.
The Cougars never looked back piling on against the UConn bullpen with seven runs after the sixth inning.
