Road to Storrs: Dan Rajkowski

The Road to Storrs: A feature series on the UConn baseball players that grew up in the state of Connecticut. The series focuses on the hometowns and different routes that our Huskies took on their journey to UConn.
From New Canaan, redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Dan Rajkowski kicks off our Road to Storrs series.
"You grow up watching UConn and want to be in those shoes when you grow," said Dan Rajkowski. The New Cannan native did not initially watch the Huskies. Prior to moving to Connecticut, Rajkowski spent some time in upstate New York rooting for another former Big East team.
"It is unbelievable that at one time I was a Syracuse fan," said Rajkowski. "It was the team to root for in upstate New York but after I moved to Connecticut, it wasn't hard to start drinking the UConn Kool-Aid."
After spending the majority of his life in the nutmeg state, the right-handed pitcher yearned to attend the state university. "The idea of supporting your home state and where you grew up, plus the attractiveness of the great business school and athletics was a huge reason why UConn was at the top of my list, said Rajkowski"

After a superb career at New Canaan high school that included winning the 2013 Class L state championship, the first in baseball since 1950, Rajkowski committed to UConn and waited for his opportunity to play for the Huskies.
After redshirting his freshman year in 2015, Rajkowski has pitched in 33 games in his UConn career. "I think supporting your home state and representing New Canaan gives you a lot of pride," said Rajkowski. "Coach always talks about the game being bigger than yourself and being from Connecticut you really understand that, you pitch for the state and where you came from."
