Huskies Conclude Weekend in Miami, New Haven

MIAMI, Fla. - The UConn men's track and field team continued a busy outdoor season by splitting the weekend between the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, hosted by Miami, on April 8-9 and at the Mark Young Invitational, hosted by Yale, on April 9.
"Overall, it was a very productive meet for our team," said head coach Greg Roy. "I think we had particular success in the hammer and all three jumps produced strong performances. All-in-all, we showed progress towards becoming the team that we want to be. Next week's home competition should prove to be interesting as we put the whole team together."
Seth Zuidema won the javelin throw with a career-best 65.99m toss on Friday, while teammates Kyler Osborne (56.70m), Joshua Lockhart (50.50m), and Patrick Meyer (46.35m) each notched top-10 finishes.
On Friday, Chris Ackell (59.88m) and Oluwatosin Edwards (59.54m) shined in the hammer throw, securing third and fourth, respectively.
On Saturday in Miami, the Huskies' 'A' 4x400m relay team (Amonu, Beram, Chavez, Barber) took fifth in the event, clocking in at 3:17.94 seconds. Amonu also shined in the 200m dash, narrowly missing out on a personal-best with a ninth-place 21.46 second finish and placed fifth in the 400m dash with a 48.27 second mark. Selwyn Maxwell took 30th in the event, clocking in at 21.99 seconds.
In the 800m run, Alvaro Chavez was the squad's top finisher, earning an eighth-place result with a time of 1:51.09, while three Huskies, Stephon Henry (14.56), Randall Wall (14.74), and Patrick Meyer (15.03), all notched top-25 finishes in the 110m hurdles.
Aaeron Sykes (55.28) and freshman Kyle Barber (55.34) took 11th and 12th in the 400m hurdles, respectively, while Demario Gray collected a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 2.08m and nabbed 11th in the long jump (7.15m). Chandler Ives posted a season-best 4.90m mark in the pole vault to take second place, while Malik Snead placed seventh in the triple jump with a 15.00m result.
On Saturday at Yale, junior Jared Delane posted a career-best in the 100m dash, taking third overall with an 11.25 second time. Delane also grabbed a top-five performance in the 200m dash, finishing in 22.33 seconds. Two Huskies, Parker Timmerman (1:54.52) and Nick O'Leary (1:57.14) finished in the top-10 in the 800m run, taking fourth and sixth, respectively.
UConn swept the top three spots in the 1,500m run and grabbed five of the top 10 spots overall led by a gold-medal performance from freshman standout PJ Garmon (3:59.22). Michael McGonnigle (4:00.52), Wyatt Million (4:01.88), Kevin Rogovich (4:03.98) and Patrick Begley (4:06.92) all turned in solid performance in the event.
Freshman Ian Bergere nabbed third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.70m in New Haven on Saturday.
Next up, select members of the team will compete at the two-day UConn Decathlon set for April 14-15 at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
