AUSTIN, Texas - The UConn men's track and field team concluded a busy weekend on Saturday, competing at the 89th Texas Relays, 2016 Bobcat Invitational and CCSU Track and Field Invite on Saturday, April 2.
"The final day continued a strong showing for our Texas trip," said Husky head coach Greg Roy. "Amanze Williams made a successful triple jump debut at Texas St., while both the 4x800m and 4x200m relay teams posted strong showings. In particular, our 4x200m team performed well considering they had limited practice times together. It was nice to see Trent return and Selwyn compete in his first 200m in three years. All-in-all, I thought it was a very successful trip for our program."
Competing in front of 21,006 fans on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium, the Huskies' 4x800m relay squad (Mike O'Donnell, Nick Bertoline, PJ Garmon, Alvaro Chavez ) picked up a seventh-place finish with a time of 7:36.86, while the 4x200m relay team (Trenten Beram, Chinedu Amonu, Stephon Henry, Selwyn Maxwell) placed ninth with a 1:25.18 second result.
At the Bobcat invitational, Williams took fourth in his outdoor triple jump season debut, notching a leap of 15.02m.
In New Britain, Kyle Barber (4:18.86) was the team's top finisher in the mile run, taking fourth and edging out teammates Parker Timmerman (4:20.24) and David Cotton (4:23.66), who finished eighth and 10th, respectively.
Junior Randall Wall earned a silver medal in the 110m hurdles, crossing the line in 15.13 seconds, and also took third in the 400m hurdles with a result of 58.32 seconds.
