UConn Drops 4-3 Decision at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The UConn women's tennis team dropped their first dual match of the season, falling at Cornell 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Reis Tennis Center. The Huskies are now 4-1 on the season in dual match play.
The Big Red opened the match winning the doubles point with victories at #1 and #3. UConn's Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) and Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva (Vinnitsa, Ukraine) won at #2, beating Lizzie Stewart and Priyanka Shah, 6-2.
Senior Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) got the match even by opening singles play with a 6-1 and 6-1 win at #1 over Marika Cusick. From there, Cornell closed out the 4-3 win by winning at #2, #4 and #5 singles.
Also earning singles victorie for UConn was Pletnyeva and junior Shea Flanagan (Overland Park, Kans.). Pletnyeva won her #3 singles match with Stewart in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. Flanagan also won a three-set match-up with Madison Stevens, dropping the first 6-4 but rebounding for a 6-4 and 6-4 win.
