Each year, donors and fans from across the world pack stadiums and arenas to support and cheer for the UConn Huskies. These individuals all share one thing in common, a love for UConn. To each and every person who supports UConn Athletics, we say thank you! You play a vital role in the success of our student-athletes both athletically and academically.
To learn more about what makes UConn so special, we caught up with a few of our donors and fans during the recent football game against Stony Brook University to ask them why they have decided to support the Huskies.
Matt O'Connell '96, Rocky Hill, Connecticut
"I've been a fan since I was 10 years old. When I was growing up, I remember watching UConn games with my dad. Then when I got a little older, I was fortunate to have the chance to attend UConn and be a part of the baseball program. In fact, I was teammates with head coach Jim Penders. I still live in the area and UConn athletics is one of my biggest passions in life, so I love coming out to support our teams."
David Keefe, Danbury, Connecticut
"I love the nutmeg state, and UConn is our state's claim to fame. I love all of our programs, but I'm a football guy first and foremost. I still remember the excitement I had back in the early 90's when it was announced that our football program was moving to Division I. Since then, I've been making donations to support the program. I'm also proud to say, I have been a football season ticket holder since Rentschler opened in 2003 and I've only missed three home games during that time."
Alex Worley, Clinton Connecticut
"My wife has worked at UConn Health for over 30 years, so she and I feel a connection to the university. I believe it is important that we support our state university and its student-athletes. I've had football season tickets ever since the team moved into The Rent. During that time, I've had a lot of great memories inside this stadium with my son. I love watching games here and I'm excited about the future of UConn Football. I can't wait to make trips again to watch them play in bowl games."
Jim Davis, Wethersfield, Connecticut
"I first remember following the Huskies all the way back in the 1970's. There have been a lot of great memories, but I really enjoy going to the games because I love seeing how the crowd comes together for UConn. Over the years, I've had the chance to meet a few UConn student-athletes and they have all been high quality individuals. We have great coaches, who attract great people, so UConn Athletics is a great thing to support and be a part of."
Dave Brajczewski `82, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
"I've been a fan and supporter of the Huskies dating back to my time as a student here back in the late 70's and early 80's. Now that I live in Cape Cod, I don't have the chance to attend as many games as I'd like, but it's always a great feeling to come back to Connecticut to watch our teams compete."
