STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's basketball team (3-2) is back in action on Friday when it hosts in-state rival Yale (7-2) at Gampel Pavilion at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on SNY and broadcasted live by the UConn IMG Radio Network. The Huskies enter Friday's game with a 44-22 all-time record against Yale and a 1-1 mark at home this season.
Connecticut fell to No. 7 Texas, 55-54, following a late three-pointer by Longhorn forward Jonathan Holmes on Sunday at Gampel Pavilion. Senior guard Ryan Boatright (Aurora, Ill.) recorded at least 20 points in a game for the third time this season, finishing the contest with 24 points, while freshman guard Daniel Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 13 points to reach double-figures for the fourth straight game.
The Huskies, who held Texas to a season-low 37.0 percent from the floor, were unable to make a field goal in the final six minutes of the game, and a missed free throw from Boatright with 15 seconds remaining opened the door for the Longhorns. UConn finished the game with a 36-35 advantage on the boards, becoming the first team this year to outrebound Texas.
Yale comes into Friday's game with wins in seven of its last eight games, including a 67-60 win over Bryant on Wednesday behind 15 points each from guard Javier Duren and forward Justin Sears. Sears is second on Yale in scoring, averaging 13.9 points a game, and his 8.6 rebounds a game rank first on the team.
The Bulldogs sport a 2-2 record on the road this season, and they've been outscored by just a combined nine points in their two losses. Yale has attempted 20.6 three-pointers a game through nine contests, shooting 34.6 percent from beyond the arc.
UConn defeated Yale, 80-62, in last season's home opener at the XL Center. Four Huskies reached double-figures, including junior guard Omar Calhoun (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who scored a season-high 18 points in the win. Boatright (14 points) also reached double-figures in the win, while former UConn standout Shabazz Napier recorded his second career triple-double (14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists).
The Huskies have won 68 straight games against in-state opponents in the last 28 seasons, and Connecticut has won each of its last 13 games against the Bulldogs. The two teams first played one another in the 1914-15 season, and Yale's last win against UConn came on Dec. 12, 1986.
