Six Huskies Taken on Second Day of MLB Draft

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut baseball team had six players taken on the second day of the 2011 MLB Draft on Tuesday.
Junior shortstop Nick Ahmed was selected by the Atlanta Braves as the 85th overall pick as he was the third Husky to be selected in this year's draft, joining George Springer and Matt Barnes who were selected in the First Round on Monday.
Ahmed, who is fourth on the team with a .333 batting percentage, was recently named to the Clemson Region All-Tournament Team as an unanimous selection. On the season, he has 61 hits, 51 runs, 35 RBI, 11 doubles and two home runs while posting a .965 fielding percentage. Earlier this year, Ahmed was one of 11 Huskies to earn post season accolades from the conference, as he was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
John Andreoli was the 519th pick of the draft as he was taken by the Chicago Cubs. With the 553rd pick of the draft, the Florida Marlins drafted redshirt senior Greg Nappo.
Kevin Vance was selected by the Chicago White Sox as the 591st overall pick, while senior Mike Nemeth was pick number 641 as he went to the Milwaukee Brewers.
David Fischer capped off the day as he was selected as the 927th overall pick to the San Francisco Giants.
Nemeth, Nappo and Andreoli were also named to the Clemson Regional All-Tournament Team as well as the All-BIG EAST Second Team in 2011. Nappo was named the Clemson Regional Most Valuable Player on Monday night after UConn's 14-1 win over Clemson.
