CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Despite only allowing three hits on the day, senior pitcher Elliot Glynn took the loss as the UConn baseball team dropped a 2-0 decision to Oregon State on Friday afternoon in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Glynn went 7.1 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs, while striking out two as the Huskies' record moves to 1-3 on the year. Oregon State improves to 3-2 with the victory.
One hit batter and three walks by Glynn gave Oregon State the advantage as the Beavers tallied both their runs in the third inning. A lead-off walk, a hit batter and a balk put runners into scoring position before back-to-back groundouts to short sent both OSU runners across the plate to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead.
UConn was unable to get on the board as the Huskies had just one hit through eight innings. A two-out infield single by John Andreoli gave the Huskies just its third base runner of the contest but the UConn rally in the bottom of the ninth was cut short as OSU's Sam Gaviglio threw a complete-game shutout, striking out 10, while walking one and allowing two hits.
After four hitless innings, senior Mike Nemeth registered the Huskies' first hit of the afternoon with a lead-off single up the middle but a double play and groundout ended the frame.
Dave Fischer finished out the game for the Huskies as he threw 1.2 innings, walking one and allowing one hit. OSU recorded four hits, while Luke Acosta finished the contest with one hit and one RBI.
UConn will take on Indiana on Saturday afternoon in a 3:00 p.m. (EST) match-up as part of the College Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas.
