Complete Schedule
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut baseball team and head coach Jim Penders officially released its 2012 schedule this afternoon. The spring season begins on February 17 as the Huskies take part in the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge in St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Fla. against Indiana, Purdue and Ohio State.
The challenge will be the first of five early season tournaments for UConn who will leave Florida for a three game set at the Cougar Invitational, hosted by the College of Charleston on February 24-26. The Huskies will head into March at the Mississippi State Tournament on March 2-4, followed by a trip to the Pacific coast at the Nike Showcase. Connecticut will play four games from March 9-11, including a game at Oregon State and Oregon. The early season tournaments wrap up with three games at the Coastal Tournament, hosted by one of UConn's 2011 NCAA Regional opponents, Coastal Carolina, March 16-18.
Overall, the Huskies will play 12 games against participants of last season's NCAA Tournament, including three vs. opponents that played in the Super Regional, Mississippi State on March 2 and 3 and Oregon State on March 10.
Upon arriving home from Coastal Carolina, UConn plays its first home game of the season against intrastate rival Yale on March 21. The Huskies four more games against teams from Connecticut, including home games against Hartford and Central Connecticut as well as road games at Quinnipiac and Fairfield.
BIG EAST play begins with a road series against West Virginia on March 23. Connecticut returns J.O. Christian Field to host its first league series of the season against Seton Hall, who knocked UConn out of the 2011 conference tournament, beginning on March 30.
The Huskies will play five home games away from their home field as they will call Dodd Stadium in Norwich home for four games and New Britain Stadium for one. Rutgers on April 21, a doubleheader against Cincinnati on May 5 and Rhode Island on May 15 will all visit Dodd Stadium. In the final series of the regular season, Connecticut and Notre Dame will play game two of the series at New Britain Stadium on May 18.
The BIG EAST Tournament is scheduled to be played at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla., for a fourth consecutive season, from May 23-27.
