STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's hockey program will continue its five-game road trip with the Atlantic Hockey opener on Friday, October 14 at Army. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. Fans can listen to the game and watch a live webcast via a paid service through UConnhuskies.com. The Huskies stand at 0-1-1 while Army comes into the game at 0-1.
Connecticut finished last season in sixth place in the final AHA regular season standings with a 13-12-2 record. UConn faced the Army Black Knights three times, coming away with two victories. The lone loss to Army came in a rare contest played at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. on February 5. Connecticut earned a slight edge over Army in 2010-11, outscoring the Black Knights, 10-9, in three contests.
Sophomore Cole Schneider and junior Sean Ambrosie led the way for UConn against Army last season. Ambrosie recorded a goal and four assists for five points in three games while Schneider tallied three goals, including the game-winning tally on October 23, and one assist for four points. Schneider and Ambrosie led the Huskies in scoring last season with 33 and 28 points, respectively.
Junior Garrett Bartus has picked up where he left off his sophomore campaign. Bartus stopped 78 shots in two games last weekend, including 41 in a 4-4 tie on Saturday night. The Huskies faced Bowling Green State in two contests and came away with a 0-1-1 mark. Bartus ranks second in the nation after two games with 78 total saves. He finished tied for second in the NCAA last season and set a new UConn record with 1,085 stops.
Brant Harris was also on point last weekend and tallied three goals, two of which came on the power play. Harris was named the AHA Player of the Week on Monday for his strong opening start to his sophomore campaign.
Army suffered a crushing 8-1 home defeat at the hands of Union to open the season. The Black Knights got on the board first just two minutes into the action but gave up eight straight goals. Army returns three seniors from last season's squad that tallied over 20 points, including Danny Colvin who finished with nine goals and 22 assists to tie for the team lead with 31 points.
