Huskies Hold UConn Dugout Club/Baseball Alumni BBQ & Game

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut baseball team held its Alumni Barbeque and game on Sunday at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, Conn. as the past Huskies competed against the present UConn ballclub.
The current UConn baseball team defeated the Alumni 6-1 as the 2011 Huskies were led by Pat Butler, who went three innings and faced 11 batters. The sophomore allowed one hit, while striking out four.
Billy Ferriter, who is coming off a rookie campaign of 33 stolen bases and 81 hits, went 3-for-4 with one steal for the 2011 team, while Mike Nemeth added two walks and a hit. Nemeth had a very successful season in 2010 as he led UConn hitting .386 with 20 doubles and 84 RBI.
Newcomer Ryan Fuller opened up scoring in the contest as he hit a solo home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the third inning. He finished the afternoon 1-for-4. Doug Elliot went 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI as well.
Michael Zaccardo threw two innings for the current UConn squad as he faced eight batters, striking out two and allowing one walk. David Fischer and Stephen Catalina threw the sixth and seventh, respectively, as Fischer picked up two strikeouts.
Newcomer Brian Ward threw the eighth and struck out three of his five batters faced. Ryan Moore gave up the lone run to the Alumni as he walked a batter to open the top of the ninth. After a ground out to second advanced the runner to second, a stolen base then a sacrifice fly to right field gave the Alumni their first run of the day.
John Andreoli, Nick Ahmed and Tim Martin all added a run for the Huskies.
Former head coach Andy Baylock threw batting practice as well as coached third base for the Alumni team on Sunday.
