Huskies Drop 3-0 Decision To Purdue

West Lafayette, Ind. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team struggled to get its offense working against Purdue this evening, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Boilermakers at the Active Ankle Challenge. UConn slipped to 2-3 on the season, while Purdue is now 7-1.
Set scores were 25-12, 25-21, 25-14.
The Huskies recorded just 19 kills on 95 attempts during the match, while the Boilermakers put up 41 kills on 98 attempts.
Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) led the Huskies with a .357 hitting percentage, eight kills on 14 attempts, while Cayla Broadwater (Williamsport, Md.) posted four kills for the second consecutive match.
Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) and Kirk tallied the lone solo blocks of the contest, while Allison Nickel (Pittsford, N.Y.) posted a pair of block assists.
Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) had 14 digs for the Huskies combined with Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Murray who posted six each to lead the UConn defense throughout the match.
UConn will close the Active Ankle Challenge tomorrow (Sept. 11) with a 4:30 p.m. contest against Duquesne.
Belmont 3, UConn 0
The University of Connecticut volleyball team opened the Active Ankle Challenge with a 3-0 loss to Belmont this afternoon in West Lafayette, Ind.
Set scores were 25-22, 25-18, 27-25.
The Huskies and the Bruins battled back and forth throughout all three sets, with UConn's strongest performance coming in the final set, in which they forced Belmont to 27 points.
Belmont's largest lead in the final set came at the 17-12 mark before the Huskies were able to knock off six straight points to take just their third lead of the set at 18-17 after a Cayla Broadwater (Williamsport, Md.) kill and a pair of Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) service aces.
The Huskies would stay within at least two points for the remainder of the set, tying the set at 25-25 before Belmont's Kayla Albritton put down two service aces to end the match.
Broadwater ended the match with four kills, while Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) had a team high of seven and Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) added six.
Kirk and Allison Nickel (Pittsford, N.Y.) once again ran the Husky offense, Kirk finishing with 10 assists and Nickel with 14 while Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) tied her season-high of 19 digs, including a set-high of nine in the third set.
