USA Collegiate National Team Update

STORRS, Conn. - UConn baseball players George Springer and Matt Barnes have been impressing fans this summer as they have been traveling around the world with the 2010 USA Collegiate National Team. Springer and Barnes made the USA roster on July 11.
Springer is batting .359 on the year with 14 hits and 13 RBI. He is coming off back-to-back stellar performances as he went 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI against Strike Zone then went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run scored on July 22 in the USA's 8-4 win over Omaha Diamond Spirit.
Barnes picked up his second win of the season on July 22 as he struck out three batters in two innings of work. His first win of the summer came on July 16 as he threw six innings, allowing one run and three hits, while striking out nine in USA's 4-1 win over Korea.
USA is currently 9-2 on the year after two straight losses to Chinese Taipei on Sunday and Monday. The team will play at Schinchuan Stadium against Chinese Taipei on July 27 and 28 before heading to Tokyo, Japan for the V FISU World University Baseball Championships July 30-August 7.
