Smith In 19th After Day One Of Decathlon

EUGENE, Ore. - After day one of decathlon competition at the NCAA Championship at Hayward Field, University of Connecticut men's track and field athlete Sean Smith sits in 19th place with 3,698 points.
The field is led by Ashton Eaton of Oregon, the favorite to win the decathlon entering the NCAA Championship. Eaton has notched 4500 points after day one competition.
Smith finished in 17th place in the 100-meter run with a time of 11.41 seconds, 16th in the long jump with a launch of 6.84 meters (22-5.25), 18th in the shot put with a toss of 12.62 meters (41-5), 10th in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters (6-4), and 20th in the 400 meter run with a time of 51.04 seconds.
Smith will finish competition in his first NCAA Decathlon tomorrow, Friday, June 11 beginning at 10 a.m. PT/ 1 p.m. ET.
