Huskies Take Home 11 Titles From UConn Alumni Invite

STORRS, Conn. - In its first home meet of the season, the University of Connecticut track team thoroughly dominated its opponents bringing home 11 titles from the meet as well as 22 top-three finishes.
On the field side of things, Mike Alleman took home the shot put title for the second-straight weekend this time with a NCAA qualifying throw of 17.15 meters, which currently ranks 18th in the east region. The Huskies other throwing title came in the hammer throw as Patrick Sampson earned a first place victory with a toss of 55.32 meters, which currently ranks in the top-48. Josh Faboyede finished the day in third place in the hammer with a toss of 52.61 meters.
Kyle Duggan improved his pole vault height from 5.06 meters to 5.13 meters moving him from 10th in the east region to fifth. Coming in second place in the pole vault was Matt Alexander who finished with a height of 4.80 meters. Zachary Meverden took fourth finishing in 4.65 meters while Dylan Dombrowski rounded out the pack with an eighth place finish reaching 4.20 meters.
Tyrone Faverey was the lone jumper on the day for the Huskies as he finished with a second place performance in the triple jump, launching himself 14.38 meters.
On the track side of things, both relays teams earned first place finishes for the Huskies. The 4x100 meter relay team finished in a time of 41.31, which currently ranks in the top-48. The 4x400 meter relay team crossed the line first in a time of 3:19.28.
Scott Johnson was the lone long distance runner on the day for the Huskies and he took advantage by finishing with a first place performance in the steeplechase finishing in a time of 9:24.12. In the 1500 meter run, Alex and Tim Bennatan earned second and third place performances finishing one behind the other in 3:57.14 and 3:57.31 respectively.
Kevin Steinberg earned a first place finish in the 100 meter dash, crossing the line in 10.77 seconds while Jesse Drinks took home the 200 meter title with a finish of 21.79. Steven Rochester earned a third place performance in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.44 and a second place finish in the 400 meter dash finishing in 49.11.
The Huskies were also successful in the hurdles. Chris Whyte earned a first place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 15.14 seconds while Anthony Burris took home the 400 meter hurdle title finishing first in 53.28, a time that ranks in the top-48 in the east region.
The Huskies also hosted a decathlon this weekend. After the two-day event, Jake Waruch earned the decathlon title finishing the event with 6,676 points. He narrowly outscored his brother, Ben, who came in second with 6.532 points. Kyle Rowbotham finished fourth and Sam Smith took fifth with scores of 6,158 and 5,917 respectively.
The Huskies return to the track next weekend in Athens, Ga. at the Spec Towns Invitational on Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10.
