Smith Takes Sixth At Texas Relays Decathlon

AUSTIN, Texas - After setting eight personal records, Sean Smith (Scotch Plains, N.J.) ended the prestigious Texas Relays decathlon with a sixth place showing finishing the events with a personal best 7,083 points.
Ashton Eaton of Oregon took home the title after finishing the competition with five first place finishes in the 10 events, recording 8,310 overall points.
Aaron King (Wharton, N.J.) finished right in the middle of the pack with a 10th place showing also setting a personal record with 6,945 points recorded in the two day competition, nearly 300 points better than his previous PR.
Smith bested his 2009 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship decathlon total by over 100 points. In doing so he set seven personal bests in the 110 meter Hurdles (15.27 seconds), Discus (37.88 meters), Javelin (51.82 meters), Shot Put (13.29 meters), High Jump (2.02 meters), 100 meter dash (11.33 seconds) and Long Jump (6.74 meters).
King also set a new personal best in the long jump smashing his old personal record by .16 meters. King finished the Long Jump portion of the decathlon with a 7.25 meter jump which landed him in fifth place.
Smith, King and the rest of the Huskies will be back in action this Saturday, April 3 at the UConn Alumni Invitational in Storrs, Conn. at the George J. Sherman-Family Sports Complex.
