DELAND, Fla. - Behind Kiki Saveriano's (Lexington, Mass.) strongest outing of the season, the University of Connecticut softball team earned their second straight victory at the Stetson Invitational, Saturday. Saveriano finished with a complete game shut out allowing just three hits and blanking 10 in the victory.
The Huskies move their record up to 4-9 on the year while earning their first victory on the road, while the Hatters drop to 13-10 on the season.
Both of the Huskies runs came in the fifth inning. Megan Apper (Commack, N.Y.) began things for the Huskies as a pinch hitter earning the base on balls reaching first safely. After a line drive out by Jen Ward (Waterford, Conn.), Julianne Towers (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) blasted her second roundtripper of the year to dead centerfield to bring home Apper and give the Huskies a two-run lead, all that they would need to be victorious on the night.
Saveriano sat down multiple batters by way of the k in the second, third, fourth and seventh innings, striking out the side in the fourth.
The Huskies look to bring their momentum into their final day of play at the Stetson Invite when they begin their day against Yale at 10:00 a.m. before turning around and playing Stetson at Noon.
