Baseball Drops 11-8 Decision to Marshall

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Mike Olt hit his third home run of the season but it was not enough as the University of Connecticut baseball team dropped an 11-8 decision to Marshall on Saturday evening in the Huskies' second game of the 2010 Arby's Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.
UConn scored one run in each of the first three innings but were matched by Marshall scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning along with a two-run third to take a 5-3 lead. UConn took the lead over once again with a three-run fourth inning as Pierre LePage hit his first double of the season to score three UConn runners to take a 6-5 lead.
Marshall answered again in the bottom of the inning with two runs then again in the fifth with another three to extend its lead as the Thundering Herd scored three runs on three hits and one UConn error.
In the sixth inning, UConn junior Mike Olt connected for his 24th career home run with a two-run shot to cut the Marshall lead to two at 10-8. Before UConn could attack once again, the Herd added another run to extend its lead to 11-8 for the eventual victory.
Greg Nappo earned his first loss of the year for the Huskies, dropping to 2-1 in 2010, as he went 3.1 innings, allowing five hits and seven earned runs, while walking four batters.
Marshall's Arik Sikula won his second game this season to advance to 2-2 on the year as he came in for Marshall starter, Ferrell, and threw for four innings, while allowing just two hits. Austin Coan registered his third save of the season after closing out the ninth to clinch the three-run victory.
LePage finished the game 1-for-4 with three RBI, while Olt also had one hit and three RBI. Mike Nemeth and John Andreoli both went 2-for-4, while Andreoli added two runs scored.
The Huskies will return to action at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning to take on No. 17 Ohio State in their final game of the Arby's Classic in Knoxville.
