STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team has been ranked No. 16 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's NCAA Division I preseason baseball poll as announced Monday, Dec. 20.
Seven of UConn's opponents on its 2011 schedule are among the top-40 programs on the preseason poll, including San Diego, College of Charleston, UC Irvine, California and BIG EAST foes, Louisville, St. John's and Pittsburgh.
Future BIG EAST member TCU has been ranked the No. 1 team, while Louisville (No. 20), St. John's (No. 26) and Pittsburgh (No. 30) are the other current conference programs ranked in the top-30 of the poll.
The Huskies, who finished the 2010 season with a program-best 48 wins, made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2010 since the 1994 season. UConn posted a 48-16 overall record and battled its way into the BIG EAST Championship final game for the third time in the last four years.
UConn opens the 2011 season on Feb. 18 against Purdue at the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge in Dunedin, Fla.
