IRVINE, Calif. - UConn baseball's George Springer and Mike Nemeth have been named to the 11th annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) preseason All-America Third Team.
The two Huskies led UConn to a program-best 48-win season in 2010 as their ballclub finished the year with a 48-16 overall record. They also led the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 1994 season as UConn hosted the 2010 Norwich Regional at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn.
Both Nemeth and Springer were All-BIG EAST Second Team members in 2010 as UConn finished as the runner-up in the BIG EAST Baseball Championship for the third time in the past four seasons.
Nemeth enters his senior season in 2011 after leading the Huskies with a .386 batting average, 84 RBI and 98 hits in 2010. He was also selected to the 2010 ABCA/Rawlings All-America Third Team for his efforts.
Springer finished the 2010 season with 84 runs scored, 60 walks and a .491 on-base percentage to lead the Huskies in those categories. He added 18 home runs and 33 stolen bases. He was also named to the 2010 BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament team.
UConn's two All-Americans are the most from any other BIG EAST program as St. John's Jeremy Baltz and Louisville's Ryan Wright were the only other two members of the conference to be named an NCBWA All-American. Baltz, who was named the 2010 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year a season ago, earned a spot on the First Team, while Wright earned Second Team accolades, respectively.
The Huskies' baseball season will begin Feb. 18 at the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge in Florida.
