Mike Leonard Named Bates Head Coach

LEWISTON, Maine - Former University of Connecticut baseball player Mike Leonard has been named the head coach of the Bates College baseball program.
Leonard, who played for the Huskies in 2001-04, served as head coach at Elms College in 2010. He was drafted by the Red Sox following his successful career at UConn, where he was an All-BIG EAST selection in 2002 and 2003. He currently stands in the Huskies' top-15 of all-time Huskies in hits (205), runs batted in (118), at-bats (648) and games played (177).
After being drafted by the Red Sox, he spent four years in their minor league system and concluded his professional career in 2009. His collegiate coaching career began when he was an assistant coach at St. Lawrence University in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, he moved to Elms College and now will lead the Bobcats after they posted a 12-22 record during the 2010 season.
