The Week Ahead
The Huskies return to the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum this weekend, hosting the No. 8 Boston College Eagles in a 1:00 p.m. Hockey East contest on Saturday (Oct. 30). UConn will then travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to face BC again on Sunday (Oct. 31) at 1:00 p.m.
Welcome Back
The Huskies, who hold a 75-65-23 all-time record in the Freitas Ice Forum including a 39-28-15 mark in Hockey East play, will once again have the home-ice advantage this weekend when Boston College comes to Storrs. The Huskies have amassed double digit wins at home during the 2006-07 (10), 2007-08 (11) and 2008-09 (14) seasons and have a shot this year, hosting 12 more games on their home ice.
Huskies Against Boston College
Five current Huskies have posted points against the Eagles in their careers, led by Jody Sydor who has recorded two goals and one assist over the past three years. Jennifer Chaisson (1G, 2A), Brittany Murphy (1G, 1A), Sami Evelyn (2A) and Monique Weber (1G) have also tallied points against BC in the past three seasons, while Alexandra Garcia has made 95 saves during 283 minutes in net.
Tough Competition
Boston College will be the third ranked opponent that the Huskies will face this season and the second Hockey East Opponent in the standings. The eagles are the No. 8 team according to this week's poll, while Minnesota-Duluth (3), Boston University (5), Providence (RV), New Hampshire (RV) and Syracuse (RV) are also in the poll.
Garcia Notches 1,000th Save
With 76 combined saves over the weekend, Alexandra Garcia reached the 1,000 save mark for her career, leaving Minnesota-Duluth with 1,067 saves. Garcia ranks fourth all-time in the UConn record book and became just the fourth Husky to post 1,000 saves in her career, joining Brittany Wilson, Shannon Murphy and Kaitlyn Shain.
...And Posts Career High
Alexandra Garcia posted a career-high 41 saves in the first game against the Bulldogs (10/23), surpassing her previous best of 35 which she set at Harvard last season. Garcia also posted 35 saves in Sunday's game against UMD and has now recorded four 30+ save games this season and seven in her career.
Chaisson In The Record Books
Jennifer Chaisson leads the Huskies with five points on the season, three assists and two goals, and has recorded at least one point in all but three games this year, with a season-high of two against Colgate (Oct. 15). Chaisson now ranks fourth on the career assists chart with 46 helpers and seventh with 68 career points. She is four assists shy of tying Dominique Thibault (2006-09) for third place on the career assists chart and four points shy of tying Cristin Allen (2006-10) in sixth place with 72 career points.
Back-To-Back
Freshman Taylor Gross posted back-to-back goals against Colgate (10/15) and Syracuse (10/16) earlier this season, including the lone UConn goal against the Orange. Gross now leads the team with three goals this season and is second with four points.
...Making An Impact
Gross has teamed up with her classmates to record 50% of UConn's goals, 25% of the assists and 35% of the Huskies' points this season, as the freshmen class leads all categories. Three newcomers have posted goals this season, including Gross (3), Jocelyn Slattery (1) and Stephanie Raithby (1), while four have tallied assists; Gross (1), Slattery (1), Jenny Saxon (1) and Alexandra Vakos (1).
